The Buried Brook App Launch & Walk

Sunday, October 29th

Meeting Point: Van Cortlandt Park Outflow

Walk Section One: 12:00 PM

Walk Section Two: 1:30 PM

followed by refreshments at the Van Cortlandt Lakehouse at 3:00 PM

The Buried Brook is a free, interactive augmented reality sound walk by composer Kamala Sankaram. It traces the sonic geography of the buried Tibbetts Brook, which once flowed from Yonkers through the Bronx to the Harlem River. As you follow the brook's former route, the app activates field recordings, songs, and instrumental solos that overlap uniquely for each listener.

Please join us and artist Kamala Sankaram as we walk along the historic path and listen to the sounds of The Buried Brook.

Pedestrian Observations- Collaborative Mapping in Sara Roosevelt Park

  • City as Living Laboratory (CALL) (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Join us on Saturday July 17th in Sara Roosevelt Park for a drop-in event to share your observations about street life in Chinatown!

We’ll have a 8’ long map-inspired outline illustration by Stephen Fan and Myles Zhang, ready for you to write on, draw on and annotate! If you live in, work in, or visit Chinatown, we want to see the neighborhood through your eyes.
